Ask Me: I Need To Find A Shirt And Tie

I just bought this jacket with matching pants for the UT Law graduation ceremony (woo!):

So, I need to find a shirt and tie.  I really want this to pop, the problem is the color is kind of flat in person.  The only color pattern I'm even sort of happy with, light blue dark blue, seems overdone and kind of boring:

Any suggestions on colors or on where I could find some good options in Austin?

Best,
Zac (@zaxzorz)

Outfit: Birds Babe

Last night I went down to South Congress for the launch party of Verb hair products created by Birds Barbershop.  I honestly didn't have to put much thought into this outfit, but the whole night was full of compliments on my look. I think the attention was mostly due to the leopard tights and super high heels I was wearing (and the short skirt helped too), but I also rocked my bright pink lipstick I got at MAC.  The lipstick held up pretty well until I made it over to Hopdoddy to devour a delicious burger.  The lipstick didn't stand a chance at that point.

She's Gone Country

Last weekend I went back to my hometown of Ft.Worth, Texas to go to my favorite Ft.Worth event, the Rodeo.  Growing up in Ft.Worth I very rarely ever hung out in the tourist area of Ft.Worth, the Stockyards.  But, I thought it might be fun to show y'all the Ft.Worth street style and shopping in the Stockyards.  When the Rodeo is in town, you see all sorts of cowboys hanging out at places such as the White Elephant saloon and along with that you get to see the awesome cowboy fashion (yes, cowboy fashion).

Before heading over to the Will Rogers Coliseum to see the Rodeo, my Dad and I took a little tour around the Stockyards.  One of my favorite parts of hanging out in Ft.Worth during the Rodeo is that I have an excuse to wear my cowboy hat and cowboy boots (although I wear my cowboy boots all the time regardless.)  The other awesome part is getting to shop at all the antique shops.  If you go to Ft.Worth I highly suggest stopping at the Montgomery Street Antique Mall.  My other favorite shop is K.Flories Antiques, the place where I got my elephant necklace that has become a staple in my wardrobe.

Do Not Feed The Bears

When I used to work at SoLa we sold these locally designed furry hats for a brief period of time and whenever there weren't any customers in the store I would sneak over and try on one of these playful Chia Hats and try to decide which color I liked the best.  These hats are so ridiculous that they are almost like wearing a costume.  But that's what makes them so great.

I finally bought a Chia Hat at Parts and Labour the other day.  I decided to go with this little brown one.  I had to get a size small which according to the Chia Hat website is meant for small children.  Even though I'm 25 years old I guess I'm still a child at heart (and head).

Fir is Murder

"What'd you kill?" Said my sister as she opened the door to my car to find my fur and suede coat strewn across the back seat.  No I have not been hunting lately.  Or ever really (except that time my dad taught me how to shoot prarie dogs at our ranch when I was like 12...)  I bought this vintage coat at Uptown Modern a few months ago back when it was nowhere near cold enough to wear.  But how could one resist the awesomeness of such a coat priced around $100 in perfect condition and that fits like a glove.  Plus, because this coat is made of real leather and fur, it's actually very warm.

Contrary to how it may appear from these photos, I'm not a supporter of real fur.  I mean, if I was a cave woman hunting for my food I wouldn't think twice about wearing the skin of the bear I just killed, but, I am not a cave woman.  However, because this coat is vintage, I don't really feel bad about wearing it.  It already exists so I might as well wear it, right?  Is that wrong?  I really hope I don't get P.E.T.A. people knocking on my door tomorrow (seriously, those people are crazy).

I wore this outfit the other night to pick out a Christmas tree with my family and then to the opening party of MOSS.  Fur was a big trend amongst the crowd at MOSS, but I'm pretty sure most of the fur wearers were sporting faux fur.  How do y'all feel about real fur?  What about real Christmas trees?  Seeing all those "murdered" trees next to my fur coat was an interesting parallel.  Is a fake tree better or worse for the environment? Hmmm...

Giveaway Winner!

Last night I found a winner (actually a winner found me) for my first giveaway ever!  It was kinda way too much fun wandering around Austin in my panda hat waiting for someone to spot me.  I gave out clues on my facebook and twitter where I was/ would be.  Last night at the Eastside Knit Night, a follower of my blog, Jillian, found me and claimed the VINCA bear ring!

Giveaway: VINCA happy bear ring

This is my first Giveaway ever on the blog, so I am really excited about this!  I came up with this idea on the spur of the moment the other night and tweeted it, but since it was so last minute I decided I should extend this idea and give y'all a week in order to win.

So, here's the idea:
This week I will be wandering around town wearing my new panda bear hat that I bought at Urban Outfitters (yes, this hat is kind of ridiculous but isn't it also kind of adorable?)

The first person to find me in my hat and mention this giveaway will win an equally adorable bear themed fashion item, this "happy bear" ring by local designer Amanda Dimova of VINCA.

Rawr!

I wore this outfit to the fashion show I went to last Thursday.  I was really excited about figuring out a way to wear my new leopard print tights.   I was in a really good mood this night and met some fun people at the show.  I came home and had to have an improptu photo shoot.  In case you haven't noticed, animal prints are a big trend right now.  Rawr!

Natural Neutrals

If you follow me on twitter then you might have already seen me in this dress.  I posted a photo of me wearing it in the dressing room of Urban Outfitters.  I had to immediately share my excitement of finding a super cute dress on sale for only $9.99.  Yes this dress was $9.99!  I love how it uses what most people might consider to be bland neutrals, and yet, is still a really interesting dress.  I have actually always been a big fan of grey and consider it to be one of the most interesting colors.

Mixing neutrals is a trend I have noticed recently that I and other fashion conscious people have been sporting.  I like how this outfit has a natural vibe, without being granola.  And, my elephant necklace adds the perfect pop of color to keep things intereting.

Urban Outfitters Live in Austin

Two days ago, with no plans and no particular purpose I walked into the Urban Outfitters on the drag. On my way I overhear a girl tell her friend that my dress is cute. This is enough to make this non-eventful outing a good one. But little did I know, there was more to come.

I walk into the store and start to browse slowly making my way to the back of the store. Then, like Dorothy walking into the land of Oz, my black and white world turned to color when I see that there is a live band and wait, could it be? Yes, free beer. How could I resist?

Drinking and shopping are a fun combo. just as long as you don't drink so much that you make poor buying decisions. But for someone who is stuck in a fashion rut and tends to buy the same types of things again and again, it might be a good idea!

After a second look around at the clothes, I came across this sailor themed dress with anchors on it. I really like that the nautical theme is a big trend this Spring. Personally I have been loving nautical themed clothes for a long time. A section in my closet is dedicated to navy and white clothes that would be boat appropriate, so I couldn't resist trying this dress on. Unfortunately it was too small on top and it was also kinda see through...yikes.

Even though I didn't walk out with anything, this was a fun shopping experience. Oh wait, I did walk out with a free tote bag. Huzzah!
