My Outfit: 90s School Kid

What have you been wearing lately in this gross weather?  When it starts to get chilly, I turn to button downs, mostly of the plaid and flannel variety.  I walked into Sugar Mama's the other day and I swear the guy working the counter and I had the same shirt on.  Oh well!

The best thing about this outfit, besides the fact that I'm wearing super thrifty things that came from Goodwill and TJMaxx, is the bag!  This classic looking purse is actually in fact a CAMERA BAG.  It's so genius and one of the coolest things I have ever purchased online.  It's the perfect bag for a fashion blogger like myself who has to look cute while also carrying around a camera.

Tribeza Style Week: Tribeza Fashion Show

Tribeza Style Week came to a close last Thursday night with the Tribeza Fashion Show featuring looks from By George, Feathers Boutique, Moss Designer Consignment, Y and I Boutique, Underwear, Estilo, Service Menswear, c.jane, The Garden Room, Kendra Scott Jewelry, Julian Gold, and Saks Fifth Avenue.  I thought the styling of this show was a step up from last year's as it involved more layering, detail, and texture.  It should come as no shock that my preferred looks of the night came from my personal favorites, Feathers and Moss.  Can I please have one of those colorful sequin dresses?...please?  Trends from this colorful, rich looking, and wearable runway included:

1) fur
2) sequins
3) fringe
4) knee high boots
5) vests for the guys

For some reason I couldn't stop dancing and wiggling in the photo pit, but I managed to get photos nonetheless (except for that one outfit that walked down the runway when the lights went out...)

Recap: Austin Fashion Week 2011 Awards

The Austin Fashion Week 2011 Awards Show last Saturday put an end to this year's Austin Fashion Week, and as I write this blog post, I am currently in Austin fashion hibernation.  After a week of: fashion events, runway shows, mingling, heel wearing, cupcake eating, and champagne drinking, I have felt a need to: hide, eat healthy, stop drinking, wear flats and cowboy boots, and do yoga.  But don't worry, this extreme behavior should only last for about a week.

For the Awards I wore another vintage find from Feathers (are you starting to realize I am obsessed with this store?)

Style Watch: Austin Fashion Week Kick Off 2011

Where: Cowboy Harley Davidson Showroom

When: August 20, 2011

I'm not sure what to say about the style from this night, because there weren't any big trends that stood out to me.  It was honestly kind of a cluster f*ck of outfits.  But I guess that sorta represents Austin, right?  We are just a motley crew of individuals.  I'm totally a fan of weird and unique style...I just wish the outfits from this night had as a group been more stylish.

Style Watch: Psych Fest

What: Austin Pysch Fest

Where: The Mohawk

When: August 12, 2011

Sometimes in Austin when you combine Rock n' Roll with Fashion, you get a specific look.  It's a little 70s inspired and a little bohemian.  If last night you wore something Janis Joplin would have worn, then you probably fit in.

I think the Austin Psych Fest attendees were not only influenced by the music, but also by some of Austin's best boutiques, Laced with Romance, Feathers, and Dog and Pony.  The boutiques brought their latest styles for their pop up shops which featured lots of vintage, the new Dust and Drag and Rima Hyena Collaboration, Altered Vision designs by Nikki Cloud, and DIY jorts from Dog and Pony with some mischievously placed studded crosses.

Check out what everyone was rockin:

Style Profile: Nikki Cloud

Every time I am out and about I notice people's style.  I have decided to start documenting even more of this by profiling interesting Austinites who I find over and over again to be sporting a fun unique style.  It's time to get to know the people who are keeping Austin stylish a little better!  I hope y'all enjoy....

One of my favorite boutiques in Austin is Feathers.  I try not to visit it TOO much because of fear of going broke after buying everything they have.  But it's a great place to go for some unique style inspiration, not only because of the clothes on the racks, but also because of the ladies who work there.  It's always fun to see what outfits these gals are wearing.  Lately I have been digging the style of Feathers' own Nikki Cloud.  Just when I'm thinking I need to wear more body hugging outfits, she has me longing for oversized drapey apparel.

One of the rare born and raised Austinites, Nikki also studied apparel design at the University of Texas.  Her Altered Vision blouses can be found at Feathers (when they aren't sold out.)

Keep reading to learn more about Nikki and find out her must haves for summer!

My Outfit: Easter in the Summer

Easter Sunday is yet another excuse for me to wear a cute dress.  I know it's technically spring, but since springtime in Austin is considerably warmer than in most other places (and I am obsessed with summer), I have been calling it summer.  And this dress is the perfect summer dress.  It's bright, it's lightweight, it's cool, AND it has pockets.  I spent today running around with my family and I consumed my first sno cone of the season.  I love this time of year!  From now until it starts to get cool I will dress every day like I am on vacation.

Outfit: Shorts That Look Like a Skirt

I don't know why but lately I have been finding a lot of shorts that look skirts.  I'm kinda loving it.  How can you go wrong with high waisted bright colored floral shorts?  Well, you could probably go wrong very easily.  But what's undeniably right about these shorts is that they have pockets!

I'm ready for summer like you wouldn't believe, but my wardrobe needs a little maintenance.  I definitely need to find some casual but hot summer black wedges.  I'm officially on a hunt for them starting...now.

Outfit: It's Too Early For This

Whose idea was it to have a fashion show at 11am in the morning on a Sunday?  And not only that, but the dress code was cocktail attire.  After the weekend I had, it was definitely too early for this.  I set my camera up on a random car in the parking lot of the Hilton Hotel in order to take some photos of the outfit I wore to the Austin Threads Exclusive Fashion Show because A) I'm classy like that B) I've completely lost all sense of shame and embarrassment and C) I really wanted to show y'all this amazing top I got at Feathers.  I definitely got a few odd stares from people walking in the parking lot.

Outfit: Grandma's Flowers

Spring has sprung and so have my grandma's famous flowers.  They only last for a few weeks so I got some photos in front of them while I had the chance.  It was unexpectedly cold yesterday which I was not a fan of since just the day before it was starting to feel like summer (my favorite time of year).  But I took advantage of the cool weather by wearing my suede fringe coat that I bought at the end of the winter and thought I wouldn't get to wear until next year.

Outfit: Be My Valentine

And the black and white polka dot obsession continues with this sheer polka dotted crop top that I got from Feathers the other day.  I assume this top is from the 80s since it has sewn in shoulder pads.  Woo!  Love is in the air.  Is it okay to be in love with an outfit for Valentines Day?  I think so.

MOSS Grand Opening Party

So stylish.  That's how everyone at the grand opening of the new clothing boutique MOSS looked Thursday night.  You could tell everyone in attendance was a fan of clothes.  If Masha and Emily (the owners of Feathers and now MOSS) had written a book on how to be stylish, last night it looked like everyone had read that book, studied it, and taken down notes.  I have never seen that many cool outfits in one room in Austin before.

It doesn't really surprise me that the opening of MOSS would have brought out so many stylish people.  Masha Harmeler and Emily Hoover have definitely made a name for themselves in the Austin Fashion world by opening up one of the best vintage boutiques in Austin, Feathers.  Feather's has not only won acclaim in Austin, but it has won acclaim nationally as well.  So when it was announced that they would be opening up a new store, it's no surprise that the stylish women in Austin would be excited and intrigued to see what MOSS has to offer.

MOSS is a designer consignment store which means they sell gently used designer brand clothing ( I saw brands such as Chanel, Diane von Furstenberg, and Max Azria to name a few) at a discount.  Personally I am usually not a fan of consignment stores.  I sort of feel like consignment the same way I feel about outlets.  If someone else didn't want the clothes, then why would I?  But with Emily and Masha doing the picking, I figured MOSS would be a different story.  And I was right.  The selection at MOSS was pretty awesome.  Everything in the store could be worked into a modern and stylish wardrobe.  I saw a lot of things that I wanted to try on.  Unfortunately I was too overwhelmed during the party to try on anything.  There were a LOT of people packed into that space (sorry to the girl whose foot I stepped on with my clunky Steve Madden clog).

Moss Grand Opening

A couple of months ago, the ladies behind one of the best vintage boutiques in Austin (Feathers), announced they would be opening up a different store that would have designer consignment.  This other store is called Moss and it is opening on December 9th!

To celebrate, Moss will be hosting a Grand Opening Party.  Check out the details below and RSVP.

Welcome to the 90s Mr.Banks

Remeber Alf?  He's back, in pog form!... I could go on all day making references to 90s pop culture. But I won't.  My point is, the 90s are back.

It kinda makes you feel old doesn't it?  Were the 90s really that long ago that the fashion has already made it's way back into rotation?  The answer is yes.  Have y'all noticed the resurgence of combat boots?  Baby doll dresses?  I went to Feathers the other night for their birthday sale and noticed several 90s baby doll minis.  Personally I love the baby doll dress.  It's fun, girly, flirty, and comfortable.  Juxtaposed with the edginess of combat boots, this 90s trend it's on its way back.

dEconstructing Kelly Young

When I walked into jewelry designer Kelly Young's apartment I didn't really know what to expect.  I had only met Kelly once when we were at an event at Mohawk.  The time we met, Kelly had a booth set up displaying her jewelry line, dEconstructed dEsign.  I was intrigued by her work so I stuck around her booth for awhile.  Her jewelry had a sign next to it saying "Hand chains. Ask me how these work!"  When your jewelry needs instructions, you know you have an interesting product that is not your average accessory.

But Kelly is probably not your average girl.  I discovered this when I walked into her apartment and discovered a girl with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mask around her head, living in what could have easily been mistaken as a jewelry parts factory.  I am not exaggerating when I say there was jewelry and jewelry pieces everywhere.  This girl loves the process of making jewelry and obviously has a passion for it.  Interestingly, she says she herself does not really wear much jewelry.  When she's not making jewelry Kelly is bartending and she fears most of her jewelry is not appropriate for that job atmosphere.  Wouldn't want to get an arm band caught on a beer tap.

Happy B-day Feathers

I can't believe Feathers is old enough to go to kindergarten!  They grow up so fast.

The local vintage store Feathers is turning 5 and they are celebrating this Friday with discounts and cocktails.  I'm super excited about this because Feathers is one of my most favorite clothing stores, so I will most likely be shoppin up a storm on South Congress on Friday.

Polka Paradise

So, I didn't have time before the New to ATX Happy Hour at Annie's to take photos of what I decided to wear.  By the time I got home it was of course way past the golden time to take photos outside.  So I did something I have never done for my blog, which is take photos outside at night.

I like the juxtaposition of this outfit with the tropical colorful print on top combined with the black and white polka dot skirt on bottom.  The mis-mash works well and is pulled together with a wide black belt making the top and bottom and seem like they were meant for each other.
