Style Watch: Gagarazzi

Austin's monsters put their paws up and wore their best Gaga inspired outfits all in the support of Equality Texas last night.  Austin's first ever Gagarazzi was a glittery gaga-licious night full of creativity, debauchery, and those in favor of equality for all.

Upcoming Event: Gagarazzi

Get ready for the best excuse to not wear pants in public, to learn how to make a hair bow, to wear a dress made of meat, to dress up in drag (guys as girls or girls as guys would both work!), or to glue a bunch of stuffed animals together and wear it with pride.  It's almost time for Gagarazzi!  I expect there to be some awesomely weird outfits at the Highball on September 30th for this special Lady Gaga event benefitting Equality Texas.

What you can experience at Gagarazzi:

-Pre-show at 9pm with music videos, Gaga karaoke, and more
-Photobooth
-Costume Contest with prizes for Best Gaga, Most Creative, and Most Original
-Show at 10pm with performances by: The Jigglewatts, Dolls From The Crypt, Black Widow Burlesque, Austin City Showgirls, Oh Baby Burlesque, Stars & Garters and more
-Dance Party til 2am
-Gaga themed raffle prizes donated by local artists and businesses including a $50 gift card to Strut, a private party at Underwear worth $500, a gift certificate to Million Tattoos of $150 and more!

Walk Walk Fashion Baby: McQueen Walks Out of Our Lives

The fashion world was shocked Thursday Feb.11 to discover that fashion artist Alexander McQueen had died at the age of 40. I say "artist" instead of "designer", because that's what McQueen was. McQueen's fashion shows were always a visually stunning artistic production. He was one of those artists that you got really excited to see what he would come up with next.

Sources say that McQueen was very close to his mother whose funeral was to take place one day after McQueen committed suicide in his home.

Recently, Lady Gaga had become McQueen's muse. It seemed like the perfect collaboration since both artists were known for pushing boundaries and blurring the lines between grotesque and beautiful. Gaga proudly rocked McQueen's "armadillo" shoes in her Bad Romance video. Check out the amazingness!




Alexander McQueen will truly be missed by the fashion world.

Beauty From the Inside Out

"What I wear is a reflection of who I am on the inside." This is a statement that many fashion oriented folks have said at one time or another. How we look on the outside projects a certain image to others, whether we like it or not. It is up to us to decide what image we want to portray. This is one of the most interesting things about fashion and style. Personal style develops over time and is always changing depending on our lifestyle choices, our moods, etc. No matter what is going on in our lives, we always have a choice with fashion. Even with the rough economy and little to spend on clothes, we can shop at a thrift store and put together an outfit that represents who we are.

What message do you want to say to people with your fashion choices?

During times of tragedy or struggle in our society, this question usually turns up a different answer that is not so self oriented. Many fashionable efforts are being made to help with the situation in Haiti. Lady Gaga has designed a special t-shirt in which 100% of the profits will go towards Haitian relief, and the Golden Globe dresses worn by the stars are being auctioned off to also help Haiti.

While it's great that celebrity powerhouses like Lady Gaga can fund these types of efforts, it's probably a lot more difficult (especially in this economy) for local businesses to be generous. This is why I was pleasantly surprised to hear that local accessories line, Shimmer and Bliss, will be donating 10% of their profits from 2010 to relief for Haiti. Shimmer and Bliss is "an accessories line designed to inspire beauty from the inside out." It's important that we not forget it is what's on the inside that matters. Because without a beautiful core to represent, then what's the point of fashion?
