Design Boutique & Design Studio Grand Opening

Established Austin fashion designer, Linda Asaf has now teamed up with notable designer, Rene Geneva, by welcoming her into her studio.  The two designers now share the former Linda Asaf design space creating a multiple designer studio and retail environment.

This past October, Geneva's Spring 2011 collection debuted on the runway for the US Embassy in Vienna.  This Wednesday at the Grand Opening celebration of her new retail space, Geneva will show us the collection that was inspired by the city of Vienna.  In the press release for this event, the collection is being described as "Madmen meets Tango."  I am intrigued and can't wait to see these clothes.

Style Watch: Verb Products Launch Party

Where: Birds Barbershop on South Congress

When: Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011

It was nice to see Austinites working in pops of color to their wardrobe, whether it be a turquoise top, a red blazer, or a cobalt blue tie.  March is almost here and I predict to see even more bright colored clothing soon.

Outfit: Birds Babe

Last night I went down to South Congress for the launch party of Verb hair products created by Birds Barbershop.  I honestly didn't have to put much thought into this outfit, but the whole night was full of compliments on my look. I think the attention was mostly due to the leopard tights and super high heels I was wearing (and the short skirt helped too), but I also rocked my bright pink lipstick I got at MAC.  The lipstick held up pretty well until I made it over to Hopdoddy to devour a delicious burger.  The lipstick didn't stand a chance at that point.

Outfit: Be My Valentine

And the black and white polka dot obsession continues with this sheer polka dotted crop top that I got from Feathers the other day.  I assume this top is from the 80s since it has sewn in shoulder pads.  Woo!  Love is in the air.  Is it okay to be in love with an outfit for Valentines Day?  I think so.

Local Makeup Entrepreneur, Rochelle Rae, Goes Red For Women

The other day I got to sit down with the founder and owner of makeup line, Rae Cosmetics.  Rochelle Rae explained to me how she transitioned from being a painter and a graphic designer to being a makeup artist.  While working at a design firm, Rae met a makeup artist and "decided she had one of the best jobs ever.  She got to make people feel pretty and feel good about themselves."  Rae tested out her curiosity  in makeup at the Los Angeles School of Makeup, and decided she wanted to make that her full time career.

So how does one go from being a makeup artist to actually designing her own makeup?

Fashion Freakout 4 Video

If you chose not to go to Fashion Freakout 4 last Friday because you wanted to stay inside your warm house, you might have missed out on your toes becoming numb from the cold but you also missed out on a really fun fashion show.  But lucky for you, I caught it all on film.  Check out my video of Fashion Freakout 4! :

I really loved the styling by all the stores in this show, but Laced with Romance is the store that inspired me the most.  I now want a crochet dress, a flapper dress, and a crazy headpiece with feathers on it.

Style Watch: Fashion Freakout 4

Where: Fashion Freakout 4 at Mohawk

When: Friday, Feb.4, 2011

It was 26 degrees and the attendees at Fashion Freakout tried to stay warm while remaining stylish.  I know some Austinites who don't even own a jacket (ok really it's only one weird boy), but a lot of ladies were happy to bust out that fur they hardly ever get to wear.  I saw lots of fur, leopard print, interesting headwear, and black leather.  Rock on, Austin!

Recap: Fashion Freakout 4

Halfway through Fashion Freakout 4 I realized my toes were numb.  I then realized I was wearing open-toed shoes outside on one of the coldest nights Austin has seen in a long time.  But I was happy to see I wasn't the only one to brave the cold in order to get a view of the local vintage fashion.  Hundreds of stylish Austinites huddled around the few heaters, ordered hot chocolate at the bar, and dreamed of warmer weather while they gazed at the lace, feathers, top hats, canes, chains, and masks that appeared on the Mohawk runway.

Fashion Freakout 4 was actually my first Fashion Freakout to attend, and I have to say that even though it was painfully cold, the fashion show lived up to the hype.  I now know why Austinites have claimed Fashion Freakout as THE fashion show of the year.  The styling by local vintage shops Prototype Vintage Designs, New Bohemia, and Laced With Romance was some of the most interesting and editorial-worthy I have seen at any local fashion show to date.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the show:

Happy Snow Day!

Since it rarely snows in Austin, when there is snow to play in, I don't really care what I wear as long as it will keep me warm enough to run around and throw snowballs.  I don't really know what all I put on this morning, but it involved layers of t-shirts, a Chia hat, and some snow boots circa 1987.

Happy Snow Day!

February Photo Shoot: The Dress Shop and Ana Reign Designs

Romantic and glamorous, Ana Reign jewelry and dresses from The Dress Shop seem like the perfect fit for the month dedicated to romance.  My favorite pieces from this shoot are Ana Reign's oversized rings.  The Ana Reign "rocktail" ring really makes a statement and adds a bit of badass to a feminine look.

For a private viewing of Ana Reign's jewelry, please email anthonymartinez@luxeprandpromotions.com.  Ana Reign's jewelry will be available in store soon at Austin Watch and Jewelry.  The Dress Shop is located at 315 Congress Ave.
