Recap: Pixel Pop

Last friday, I went to the Mohawk to check out the comic book creativity (and to accidentally get drunk.)  Pixel Pop brought together artists and fashion designers to create a comic book inspired event.  This event was a lot of fun, and, like most events held at the Mohawk, there was something going on in every little corner of the venue.

Live music, pop up shops of local designers, comic book artists showing off their art, two photobooths to get your photo taken at.  There was just a ton of awesomeness and creativity.

The fashion designs were inspired by the art of Chad Townsend.

One of my favorite parts of this event was seeing all the pop up shops and meeting the designers behind the local designs.

Those hand chains and androgynous necklaces are part of Kelly Young's collection for her jewelry line dEconstructed dEsign.  I tried on one of those hand chains.  Very cool.

Anne Marie Beard, who makes up one half of the Lone Star Ladies, brought her sewing machine to make custom made mini wallets on the spot.

There were selected items from The Wonder Craft boutique.  I'm not sure which designer is behind this baby mustache onesie, but how awesome is it!?

Although this event was a blast, I have to say that the fashion show portion of the event was a little underwhelming for me.  For some reason I was picturing more designs to have walked down the runway.  The models also walked really fast and were out on stage for a very short period of time.  In fact, I almost blinked and missed the fashion show entirely.  It was cool while it lasted though.  Congrats to Team Fabrication for putting together these designs.

Stay tuned for a STYLE Watch post coming soon to see what you crazy Austinites were wearing at Pixel Pop!
