Style Profile: Nikki Cloud

Every time I am out and about I notice people's style.  I have decided to start documenting even more of this by profiling interesting Austinites who I find over and over again to be sporting a fun unique style.  It's time to get to know the people who are keeping Austin stylish a little better!  I hope y'all enjoy....

One of my favorite boutiques in Austin is Feathers.  I try not to visit it TOO much because of fear of going broke after buying everything they have.  But it's a great place to go for some unique style inspiration, not only because of the clothes on the racks, but also because of the ladies who work there.  It's always fun to see what outfits these gals are wearing.  Lately I have been digging the style of Feathers' own Nikki Cloud.  Just when I'm thinking I need to wear more body hugging outfits, she has me longing for oversized drapey apparel.

One of the rare born and raised Austinites, Nikki also studied apparel design at the University of Texas.  Her Altered Vision blouses can be found at Feathers (when they aren't sold out.)

Keep reading to learn more about Nikki and find out her must haves for summer!

How would you best describe your personal style?
The best thing about working with vintage clothing is that I can change my style any given day. And, I do. Currently, I'd say my style is bohemian with a little punk thrown in the mix.  I do stick to the following guidelines no matter what my mood: colorful, drapey, mixed prints/ texture, with a short hemline.  I also love mixing designer with my vintage.  It's more interesting that way.

Who or what do you look to for style inspiration?
I read a lot of blogs especially street style blogs, and my favorite style star is Taylor Tomasi Hill. She is the style and accessories director for US Marie Claire magazine. She manages to combine effortless and
the unexpected all at the same time.  I always want what she is wearing.

Do you have a go-to accessory that you never get sick of wearing?
I never get sick of my slouchy Jeffrey Campbell Brit boots. I even bought them in grey. They literally go with every thing.  The only reason why I am not wearing them right now is because it's 105 degrees
outside.  Second to that, is probably my Trilobite ring made by local designer, Chrissy Bowlby.  We offer her jewelry at Feathers.  It too, I wear almost everyday.

Do you have any embarrassing style moments? Any trends you wish you hadn't followed?
I try to ignore all of my style moments before I was eighteen. *Shudder* As far as trends, black hair and a bowl cut. Not my best look.

What's your favorite thing about fashion in Austin?
My favorite thing about Austin fashion is that originality and diversity is appreciated.  That I can walk down the street and go out at night and see so many different spectrums of style, is refreshing.  Because of that I feel like Austin is developing it's own style as a city.  We are casual but colorful.

What's your least favorite thing about fashion in Austin?
This is probably true in all cities but I am a firm believer that you should not go out in public in your work-out clothes.  Especially AFTER you worked out.  And, never to try on clothing.  There are levels of casual and that is on the TOO casual side.

What are some of your summer must haves?
Frozen margaritas. Sheer maxi skirts.  Anything NEON yellow.  Barton Springs with my ladies.  Drapey open tops with cut offs.  Cooking with my man.  Jay Z Radio on Pandora.  My K. Jacques for Opening Ceremony sandals.
