Blackbird Singin in the Dead of Night

At my new job the other day, my co-worker Katie enlightened me about a new store.  Katie, who was wearing a cute black dress, exclaimed "I got this dress for only $30!"  She expressed her confusion about how this new store was able to have such cute stuff with affordable prices.  Katie already had me thinking that I would HAVE to check out this new boutique.  Then, when I heard it was on North Loop near one of my favorite stores, Room Service, I was more than excited to make a trip to this new store.

Blackbird has a nifty selection of both womens AND mens clothes and accessories.  The best part about this boutique is definitely the prices.  Having prices this affordable at a local boutique is pretty rare.  At Blackbird you will feel like you are getting a good deal.

This dress I tried on was priced at under $30!

And this cute studded skirt was $34.

For the guys, they have button downs and tees all priced around $30.

Besides having cute stuff and prices that will make you smile, the store also has a cool vibe with fun decor.  Behind the front register is a giant black and white photograph of Barton Springs in the 1920s.  And of course, Hitchcock-like grackles make an appearance or two.

My only complaint about Blackbird is that they don't have a huge selection.  It's actually fairly small.  My guess (or hope) is that they expand and get more.  I would have liked to see at least one more rack of clothes.  Co-owner and clothing designer Juliana told me that they are looking to possibly sell some stuff by local designers and she hopes to eventually put her own designs in the store as well.

Blackbird also has a "curios" section of the store next door which I forgot to even go in! Whoops.   I'll have to check that out next time.

Overall,  I am super pumped about Blackbird and you should be too.  North Loop is now even more awesome than it already was.  I might have bought something while at Blackbird but I made the mistake of going to Room Service first and bought a really cute top.  It was only $18 and totally worth it, but I had told myself I would not spend any money.  Damnit.

Great post! Since I live southwest I'm rarely in that area but I've definitely noticed that more and more hip businesses are moving there (as is signified by happy hour invites I'm getting over there). I'm going to have to check it out.

I look forward to meeting you at Ladies Who Lunch Joanna! I missed the day you were there. L-O-V-E your blog. :)

Oooh I love the paintwork on the outside of this shop...really makes you want to go inside....I love independent shops and if they are reasonable in price - what could be better?

Ahh, I LOVE this place! My friend Stacey runs it, she's the sassy little redhead at the counter. :) So glad you're posting about it! Love their whole French/gothic vibe goin' on in there.
