Friday at Frisco

Most of my family is still in town for the holidays, which means I feel overfed and lazy (and loved).  My family is all about going out to eat.  Our days are planned entirely around our meals and where we will eat them.  When outsiders spend time around my family I'm pretty sure they are incredibly confused about how we are all not obese.  Today's New Year's Eve lunch was spent at a restaurant my family has been frequenting ever since I can remember, Frisco.  They somewhat recently updated their menu and added some new items, so I actually like the place even more now.

I can't believe I can fit into this skirt right now, or that I can be wearing a skirt without tights on New Year's Eve.  I love crazy Texas weather!

Happy New Year's Eve!

2010: A Year of Style Photos

It's crazy to think that I started this blog a little over a year ago.  2010 has been a fantastic year for me personally, and I have to attribute a big part of that to this little blog.  The last year has been a whirlwind of meeting new amazing people, going to new interesting places, and getting to do some pretty special things. I'm so glad that I live in the amazing town that is Austin, and on any given night I can go out and meet new creative souls.  To commemorate 2010 and a year of blogging, I put together a little video montage of all my personal style photo shoots (including some never before seen and un-edited photos) from the past year.  Hopefully y'all aren't sick of looking at me as much as I am.  But in case you are, you will be happy to know that I plan on doing more photo shoots next year with more models!

I don't know about you, but I plan on making 2011 an amazing year.  Happy New Year!

Wrapped

No, I'm not talking about Christmas presents (although they are also wrapped).  But what else is wrapped?  The movie that I spent the last month working on.  I never really explained on my blog what I have been doing for the past month.  I have been crazy busy working on a movie called "Beneath the Darkness" which is a thriller starring Dennis Quaid, Aimee Teegarden, and Tony Oller.  Let me back up here a bit to explain exactly how this all came about..

When I was around 9 I realized that a video camera was the best toy a kid could have.  Almost every day after school my friend and I would come home to make videos.  These mostly consisted of us parodying things we saw on tv such as Calvin Klein ads.  Remember how hilariously serious those were back in the 90s? Oh wait, they are still like that today (I'm laughing at you Zoe Saldana).  But anyway, around the same time I was having fun making my homemade mini movies, my Dad was starting to write movies of his own. At first this was just a hobby for my Dad, but at some point he realized he wanted to actually see his script made into a movie.

My Dad has worked for years to get his script "Beneath the Darkness" produced, and, what seemed like such a slow process all of a sudden turned into a whirlwind of action and progress with me hopping on board to be involved in this awesome project.  As someone who started off college as a fashion major, then switched to film, started a fashion blog, then worked in casting, costume design is something I have grown more and more interested in as it combines both my interests in film and fashion.  Thus the last month for me has been spent in the wardrobe trailer, on our movie set in the tiny Texas town of Smithivlle, bugging Randy at crafty and stealing food to take back to the wardrobe trailer, and in the hotel Hyatt Lost Pines ordering room service and sleeping (there wasn't a whole lot of sleep, but there was some).

Armadillo Christmas Bazaar

For some reason I couldn't convince any of my friends to go to the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar with me.  I need to stop hanging out with lazy boys, because stuff like this is so much fun!  Yesterday was the first time I have ever been to The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar, but it is an event that has taken place in Austin every December since 1976.  The Bazaar gives local artists a place to present and sell their one of a kind art.   The art this year included everything from toy metal whales to wax art to handmade soap.  This year they tried to add even more fashion oriented booths to the mix, with artists selling things such as hand knitted shawls, hand dyed scarves, handmade hats, handmade leather purses, and screen printed tees.  In the future it would be nice to see even more locally designed clothing and accessories.

A lot of the items sold at the Christmas Bazaar are pretty pricey (as one of a kind art usually is).  One of my favorite booths was the Flim Flam booth by a guy who works with metal to create animal "toys" that move around.  Some of his biggest works like the T-Rex dinosaur were priced up to $500!  But even if you don't buy anything, just going and looking at everything is a fun event.  The one thing I ended up buying is available at Parts and Labour year round, but I'm glad I went to check out all the other local art because I made some fun discoveries.

North Loop Holiday Block Party

North Loop has been one of my favorite shopping districts for a long time.  I'm always surprised when people don't know about this area, especially since it houses some of my favorite stores in Austin.  Tomorrow North Loop is having a Holiday block party.  So if you haven't finished your holiday shopping, this is a great opportunity to get some shopping done.  There will be extended store hours, special sales, live music, and food!

Everything at Blackbird will be 25% off!  Blackbird already has awesome prices, so with 25% off I bet you can get some steals.

Do Not Feed The Bears

When I used to work at SoLa we sold these locally designed furry hats for a brief period of time and whenever there weren't any customers in the store I would sneak over and try on one of these playful Chia Hats and try to decide which color I liked the best.  These hats are so ridiculous that they are almost like wearing a costume.  But that's what makes them so great.

I finally bought a Chia Hat at Parts and Labour the other day.  I decided to go with this little brown one.  I had to get a size small which according to the Chia Hat website is meant for small children.  Even though I'm 25 years old I guess I'm still a child at heart (and head).

Fir is Murder

"What'd you kill?" Said my sister as she opened the door to my car to find my fur and suede coat strewn across the back seat.  No I have not been hunting lately.  Or ever really (except that time my dad taught me how to shoot prarie dogs at our ranch when I was like 12...)  I bought this vintage coat at Uptown Modern a few months ago back when it was nowhere near cold enough to wear.  But how could one resist the awesomeness of such a coat priced around $100 in perfect condition and that fits like a glove.  Plus, because this coat is made of real leather and fur, it's actually very warm.

Contrary to how it may appear from these photos, I'm not a supporter of real fur.  I mean, if I was a cave woman hunting for my food I wouldn't think twice about wearing the skin of the bear I just killed, but, I am not a cave woman.  However, because this coat is vintage, I don't really feel bad about wearing it.  It already exists so I might as well wear it, right?  Is that wrong?  I really hope I don't get P.E.T.A. people knocking on my door tomorrow (seriously, those people are crazy).

I wore this outfit the other night to pick out a Christmas tree with my family and then to the opening party of MOSS.  Fur was a big trend amongst the crowd at MOSS, but I'm pretty sure most of the fur wearers were sporting faux fur.  How do y'all feel about real fur?  What about real Christmas trees?  Seeing all those "murdered" trees next to my fur coat was an interesting parallel.  Is a fake tree better or worse for the environment? Hmmm...

MOSS Grand Opening Party

So stylish.  That's how everyone at the grand opening of the new clothing boutique MOSS looked Thursday night.  You could tell everyone in attendance was a fan of clothes.  If Masha and Emily (the owners of Feathers and now MOSS) had written a book on how to be stylish, last night it looked like everyone had read that book, studied it, and taken down notes.  I have never seen that many cool outfits in one room in Austin before.

It doesn't really surprise me that the opening of MOSS would have brought out so many stylish people.  Masha Harmeler and Emily Hoover have definitely made a name for themselves in the Austin Fashion world by opening up one of the best vintage boutiques in Austin, Feathers.  Feather's has not only won acclaim in Austin, but it has won acclaim nationally as well.  So when it was announced that they would be opening up a new store, it's no surprise that the stylish women in Austin would be excited and intrigued to see what MOSS has to offer.

MOSS is a designer consignment store which means they sell gently used designer brand clothing ( I saw brands such as Chanel, Diane von Furstenberg, and Max Azria to name a few) at a discount.  Personally I am usually not a fan of consignment stores.  I sort of feel like consignment the same way I feel about outlets.  If someone else didn't want the clothes, then why would I?  But with Emily and Masha doing the picking, I figured MOSS would be a different story.  And I was right.  The selection at MOSS was pretty awesome.  Everything in the store could be worked into a modern and stylish wardrobe.  I saw a lot of things that I wanted to try on.  Unfortunately I was too overwhelmed during the party to try on anything.  There were a LOT of people packed into that space (sorry to the girl whose foot I stepped on with my clunky Steve Madden clog).

Fun Fashion Find: Marshmallow Necklace

Normally around this time I would be out and about shopping my booty off at all the fabulous local stores in Austin looking for presents for my family and friends (while secretly doing some shopping on the side for myself.)

But this year, unfortunately, I have had zero time to do this (and plus now I'm sick at home.)  Thus I have been doing some online shopping (which I normally actually kinda hate to do).  However, I have recently discovered that Austin has a LOT of great Etsy shops.  I came across this marshmallow necklace while browsing the Austin Etsy stores and I thought it was really funny.

Found online at alliteration Etsy store, $9

Not only does this necklace make me want to put on my reindeer antlers and sip on some homemade hot chocolate, but, it also reminds me of a few Christmases ago when my dad bought us "kids" a marshmallow gun.  My dad loves to buy my siblings and I toys so that he can play with them.

Cypress Vanguard Launch

Back in October I talked to local lingerie designer Megan Summerville about her shop and she informed me that her space would be expanding in the future to include more local designers.  The goal of Megan and Launch787's Matt Swinney was to create a one stop shopping experience for people looking for locally designed clothing and accessories.

Megan and Matt's vision is now a reality as the Cypress Vanguard Fashion House is launching this Sunday with local designers such as Anslee Connelly of savannahred and Ross Bennett of the Ross Bennett Collection (to name a few) joining forces to bring you a power house of locally designed merchandise.

One of Many Ponchos

I actually took these photos about a month ago and never posted them for some reason.  Since I have been working as a costume assistant for a movie filming in Smithville, I haven't had much of any free time to take style photos lately (I'll go into that in more detail in a future post).  But even though these photos are a little old, this is a look I have been rocking a lot lately.

I got this vintage poncho from Room Service last year and it is one of my favorite vintage finds.  I actually own several ponchos and I'm a big fan.  They are comfy, roomy, and give an outfit an eclectic vibe.  I specifically remember feeling this day like I could live in a cottage and grow my own organic vegetables and attempt to craft jewelry while my husband chops wood for our fire (apparently I like to daydream about marrying a lumberjack).  It's funny how sometimes your outfit reflects your mood and sometimes your mood reflects your outfit.

Black Friday Sales

Honestly I have never even really tried to do shop on Black Friday for fear of being run over by over ambitious shoppers and crowded mall parking lots.  But, if you want the benefit of Black Friday sales without the fear of injury, I suggest trying to shop at some local stores.  Your chances of being run over by a shopping cart at a local boutique are slim to none.

Here are some of the local boutique Black Friday sales that will be going on this weekend:

Fashion FAIL: Bathrobe in Public

photo submitted by Patrick Meredith

I like to be somewhat lenient on my Fashion Fails because it's Austin and we are known for being weird (and sometimes this includes wearing weird things).  But in the case of this photo...this is fashion laziness, and just laziness in general.  A pink polka dotted bathrobe is a cute clothing item for the BATHROOM or lounging around the house.  This is not an acceptable thing to wear outside the house even if you are just going to Thundercloud to get a sandwich (which is what is happening here).  At least put on some pants! Geez.

I'd like to note that as a nice contrast to the bathrobe FAIL, the girl next to her has on some killer heels that I'm pretty sure are the same ones I have and wore in this photo shoot.

Hey There, Cupcake Sweater

It was way back in April that I purchased this cupcake sweater at Top Shop when I was visiting my friend in New York.  Ever since then I have been imaging wearing it at one of my favorite local cupcake spots, Hey Cupcake.  And even though it is a lightweight sweater, it really hasn't been cold enough to wear it...until now!

Yesterday was the second time I have worn the cupcake sweater and this time I decided it was time to have my photo taken in it.  Luckily via twitter, a special photographer and friend of mine agreed to come have a cupcake photo shoot with me on the spur of the moment.   This shoot was way too much fun.  And this coat I got from local boutique Adelante a couple of years ago has the perfect whimsical and happy vibe  to match the cupcake sweater.

Giveaway Winner!

Last night I found a winner (actually a winner found me) for my first giveaway ever!  It was kinda way too much fun wandering around Austin in my panda hat waiting for someone to spot me.  I gave out clues on my facebook and twitter where I was/ would be.  Last night at the Eastside Knit Night, a follower of my blog, Jillian, found me and claimed the VINCA bear ring!

Recap: SoLa Fashion Show

Last Thursday I went to check out the SoLa Fashion Show at their location on South Lamar.  This year instead of the typical runway style show, they chose to have static models pose in the front windows and inside the store to show off the outfits.  I liked this set up a lot because it gave everyone a chance to really check out the details of the outfits.  I think the selection at SoLa right now has some really great options for holiday party outfits.  Check it out:

The unofficial SoLa mascot is their dog Venus who was feeling very confident at the show and thought she was supposed to help model.  If you're lucky, Venus will be hanging out at the store the next time you stop by SoLa.  She frequents both the South Lamar and the Triangle location.

Giveaway: VINCA happy bear ring

This is my first Giveaway ever on the blog, so I am really excited about this!  I came up with this idea on the spur of the moment the other night and tweeted it, but since it was so last minute I decided I should extend this idea and give y'all a week in order to win.

So, here's the idea:
This week I will be wandering around town wearing my new panda bear hat that I bought at Urban Outfitters (yes, this hat is kind of ridiculous but isn't it also kind of adorable?)

The first person to find me in my hat and mention this giveaway will win an equally adorable bear themed fashion item, this "happy bear" ring by local designer Amanda Dimova of VINCA.

UFG Fall Fashion Event

In case y'all were unaware, there is a group for people interested in fashion at UT called University Fashion Group.  I was a UFG member for a couple of years when I went to UT and I loved it.  It gave me my first experience working behind the scenes at fashion shows.  (It also led to an eye opening experience that I can't really discuss on my blog, but you can ask me about that in person someday if you'd like.)

But anyway, tomorrow UFG is holding a Fashion Fall Event at the Megan Summerville/ Launch787 Patio.  If you've never been, it's a really picturesque backyard area where you just wanna hang out and sip cocktails.  (I honestly don't know how Megan gets any work done over there.)

In addition to complimentary food, a live DJ, and activities like t-shirt reconstruction, there will also be a a fashion competition!  The categories for the competition include: most glamorous, most trendy, most original, most eco-friendly, most thrifty, the "Keep Austin Weird" award, and overall best dressed.  There will also be raffles throughout the night for prizes.

This event is free for UFG members and $7 for non-members.

Behind the Scenes

This past weekend I had the opportunity to be the wardrobe stylist for a photo shoot with model Arianna McKinney.  Arianna wanted to do an old-school vintage Hollywood glamour type of shoot in order to add some vintage inspired photos to her portfolio.  I was so excited to get to style this shoot for many reasons.  For one, this was the first shoot I styled for someone other than myself.  Secondly, I am really into old-school movies and vintage glamour.  And thirdly, I got to work with a fabulous photographer, Gregg Cestaro, and make up and hair stylist, Keith Patillo of Shine Salon.

I of course went to some awesome local boutiques to borrow clothes for this shoot.  I'm really glad I got the opportunity to show the local resources we have here to create an old Hollywood look.  Thank you to Adelante, SoLa, Mana Culture, Amelia's Retro-Vogue, and Megan Summerville for providing me with some amazing pieces.

In addition to borrowing from these stores, I also pulled pieces from my own personal collection, as well as Arianna's.  The end result is awesome and I can't wait to show y'all the photos that Gregg took.  But for now, you get a behind the scenes sneak peek from the photos I took on set at Arianna's pretty house:

SoLa Roaring 20's Fashion Show

This Thursday there are 3 fashion shows going on.  Yes, 3!

First of all, it's time for the annual fashion show by local boutique SoLa.  SoLa is my old stompin grounds, so I know first hand that they put on a great show.  They are doing things a little bit different this year though.  Instead of the typical runway show, they will be showcasing the outfits on live mannequins/models throughout the store.  This will give everyone the opportunity to spend time looking at the fashion instead of it all being a blur.  It will also give photographers (like me) the chance to actually get some good photos!

The theme this year is a roaring 20s feel with lace, ruffles, volume, and prints.  They will be serving up some beverages by Paula's Texas Spirits and Dripping Springs Vodka with DJ Ozone and Mike Sway providing the music.

5% of the sales from this night will benefit SafePlace.

Please RSVP here to the SoLa Fashion Show.

Downtown Debauchery

Last Saturday a bunch of us fashion minded girls got together to have a night of downtown shenanigans.  One of the best parts about going out with a group of stylists, make up artists, and fashion bloggers is that getting ready to go out is half the fun of going out.  Laura Martinez helped all of us out with our makeup and we got to experiment with something I have never tried before- fake eyelashes.  Trust me, if I tried to put on fake eyelashes by myself at home I would probably end up looking like a drunk tranny.  With the help of Laura, it actually looked pretty cool.  Probably not something I will do in the future though.  Why?

I learned this weekend that I am a pretty low maintenance girl.  While fake eyelashes are fun to look at, the whole night I was afraid my eyelashes were going to fall off (not an unlikely scenario).  And while we made our way to clubs on west 6th street that I had never heard of, I realized that I am just as happy hanging out on the dirty side where I can get free drinks and I'm scared to touch anything in the restrooms.

Speaking of restrooms, the ones on the west side are filled with beauty products in case you need to touch up your hair spray in the bathroom.  Yeah...the way my hair looks is probably the least of my worries when I'm downtown.  The worries usually read more like: "Wait, where's my phone?" " How am I going to get home?" " I really need to pee!"  And while I have learned how to wear heels downtown without embarrassing myself or dying from pain, I only wear heels that I know will allow me to dance.  This is why I am obsessed with wedges.  I can actually walk around or dance for hours in wedges and still be comfortable.

Enjoy these photos that tell the events of the night:

Rawr!

I wore this outfit to the fashion show I went to last Thursday.  I was really excited about figuring out a way to wear my new leopard print tights.   I was in a really good mood this night and met some fun people at the show.  I came home and had to have an improptu photo shoot.  In case you haven't noticed, animal prints are a big trend right now.  Rawr!

Recap: Fall Fashion Show with Hem, Stanton, and Estilo

Thursday night I went to the Fall Fashion Show put on by Hem Jeans, Stanton, and Estilo.   The fashion show was hosted at Embellish Nail Salon & Boutique in Westlake.  Seeing as I'm not a wealthy mom, I don't spend much time in that area of town, so it was kinda fun to hang out in a different area.

The Embellish here was a lot bigger, a lot pinker (pink walls pink ceiling, pink everything),  and had a lot more accessories than the Embellish in the Triangle.  They actually had a cute selection of shoes and accessories including jewelry, sunglasses, wallets, and more.

Stella Says Go

I've praised Stella Says Go on this blog many times before, so by now you should know that Stella Says Go is THE best local shoe store.  You will not find a better or wider selection of shoes at any other local boutique.  And honestly their selection is like you weeded through all the ugly shoes at a bigger chain store to leave only the cute shoes to look at.

Now that you know that, you should also know that Stella Says Go is having a SALE.  Starting today and ending Sunday you can get 30% off select fall styles (including boots!).  It's finally time to put away the flip flops (in my opinion it's always time to put away the flip flops) and wear some boots.

Stella Says Go is located on the corner of 5th and Lamar.  Sale ends this Sunday!

Movember

The month of November is now known as Movember.  "Huh?"  Let me do a little explaining.

While October was breast cancer awareness month and products everywhere were made pink in support, the moustache has become the "pink ribbon" for men's health.  So if you are (hopefully) a dude and you want to show your support for the fight against cancer, then all you have to do is not shave for the month of Movember and rock that stache.  Since a lot of the guys in Austin already have a stache this won't be too hard.  The funds raised through Movember's campaign will benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG.

Guys click here to register and participate in Movember!

Ok, but, besides giving moral support, what can the ladies do to help this cause?  TOMS has a limited edition Movember TOMS.  Check this out y'all.  A mustache on your shoe!

Black and White and Red All Over

I've talked before about using a pop of color in an outfit to add interest.  Recently my favorite color combo has been using black and white with a pop of red.  This is a pretty classic combo and, in my opinion, it never really goes out of style.  Several of the clothing items seen here are things I have had in my closet for awhile.  The exceptions (things you can find in stores now) are the black and white striped shirt from the Gap, fake leather shorts and scarf from Forever 21, swimsuit from Target, and the VINCA jewelry which was courtesy of local designer Amanda Dimova.  If you don't know anything about VINCA you can check out this post I wrote back in August.  VINCA stuff is available for purchase on their website, or you can find some of it at local boutiques Parts and Labour, DownSTAIRS Apparel, IF + D, and Capra & Cavelli.  Correction: VINCA is no longer sold at Parts and Labour, but you can find it across the street at Creatures.

Recap: Glam, Glitter, & Gore Fashion Show

I guess I shouldn't have set my production value expectations too high for an event taking place at a venue called Starving Art Studios.  The small room with low ceilings, lack of good lighting, and questionable DJ made me feel a little nervous about what the fashion show was going to entail.

The turnout for this shopping event and fashion show was probably not what the artists and designers involved had hoped for.   As I stood around waiting for the fashion show to start, it became more and more clear to me that this crowd was similar to that you would see at a school play.  The people in attendance seemed to be mostly that of close family and friends of the people involved.

With all of that said, once the show actually started (an hour later than it was supposed to) I thought it was fun.  I especially liked Anslee of savannahred's Day of the Dead inspired designs.  But after waiting for so long for the show to start, I was disappointed with how quickly the show was over.  I wish there had been more designers involved in this show so that there would have been more designs to see.

Here are my photos from the show that took place last Saturday:

Glam, Glitter, & Gore

Ok, the text on that flyer might possibly be the worst I have ever seen.  There is way too much going on to able to decipher anything.  Luckily I am here to break it down for you.

Glam, Glitter, and Gore is a shopping and art event happening today at the Starving Art Studios.  Starting at noon today, you can enjoy food trailers, an indoor artist market, outdoor vendors, family friendly costume projects and crafts, face painting, and more.  This portion of the event is more geared towards families and kids.

Starting at 6 pm the event becomes more focused on the adults.  There will be a closing reception for the Glam, Glitter, & Gore art exhibition that has been going on since October 1st.  You can enjoy drinks, live music, a costume contest, photo booths, and more.

But the main reason I am excited about this event is the fashion show that is taking place at 6:30.    This fashion show will feature collaborative designs by svannahred, Jinxedaposed, Megan Summerville, Jennifer Cunningham, The Curiosarium, Al Shults, Shalena Designs, Simmang Designs, and more.

Halloween Lingerie Fashion Show

I didn't really realize how scandalous this event flyer was until I just increased its size and uploaded it into this blog post.  Hopefully no one is offended by boobs.  If you are, then you should probably stay at home on Halloween weekend.  Halloween is when the slut-tastic girls think they have an excuse to dress extra slutty.

Basically, if you less than prude girls don't have any costume ideas yet, then i suggest coming out for this fashion show tonight.  It will feature lingerie "costumes" from TABU Lingerie.

Recap: Bon La Vu Fashion Show and Launch Party

What is Bon La Vu?

Honestly this is a question that I couldn't find many answers to last Sunday night.  Even though there were many local designers involved in this shindig, the majority of them seemed pretty unaware of what the whole thing was about.  I got more answers by just going to the Bon La Vu website.  However, the website is "member exclusive" which means you have to enter in your email even to browse the site.  Bleh.  I'm not a fan of sites where you have to sign in just to look at anything.

But anyway, the point of the website Bon La Vu is this: Every day they feature a different outfit made up of pieces by local designers and/or local boutiques.  You can buy any piece separately, OR you can buy the whole outfit.  If you buy the entire outfit then you get a discount.  Sounds kinda awesome, right?

Welcome to the 90s Mr.Banks

Remeber Alf?  He's back, in pog form!... I could go on all day making references to 90s pop culture. But I won't.  My point is, the 90s are back.

It kinda makes you feel old doesn't it?  Were the 90s really that long ago that the fashion has already made it's way back into rotation?  The answer is yes.  Have y'all noticed the resurgence of combat boots?  Baby doll dresses?  I went to Feathers the other night for their birthday sale and noticed several 90s baby doll minis.  Personally I love the baby doll dress.  It's fun, girly, flirty, and comfortable.  Juxtaposed with the edginess of combat boots, this 90s trend it's on its way back.

dEconstructing Kelly Young

When I walked into jewelry designer Kelly Young's apartment I didn't really know what to expect.  I had only met Kelly once when we were at an event at Mohawk.  The time we met, Kelly had a booth set up displaying her jewelry line, dEconstructed dEsign.  I was intrigued by her work so I stuck around her booth for awhile.  Her jewelry had a sign next to it saying "Hand chains. Ask me how these work!"  When your jewelry needs instructions, you know you have an interesting product that is not your average accessory.

But Kelly is probably not your average girl.  I discovered this when I walked into her apartment and discovered a girl with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mask around her head, living in what could have easily been mistaken as a jewelry parts factory.  I am not exaggerating when I say there was jewelry and jewelry pieces everywhere.  This girl loves the process of making jewelry and obviously has a passion for it.  Interestingly, she says she herself does not really wear much jewelry.  When she's not making jewelry Kelly is bartending and she fears most of her jewelry is not appropriate for that job atmosphere.  Wouldn't want to get an arm band caught on a beer tap.

Dog and Pony

Ever since I graduated from UT I hardly ever make it over to the campus area, unless it's to quench my thirst for bubble tea.  So I was unaware of the new boutique near campus, Dog and Pony, that opened up recently.  Dog and Pony lives on Guadalupe next to Kasbah and has only been around for about 2 months, but I have already been hearing some good things about it.  I went the other day to check it out for myself.

What I found at Dog and Pony was a decent selection of trendy clothes that were priced pretty reasonably. There were actually some really unique pieces at this place.  Some one of a kind hand painted tanks were one of the more unique things I saw.  Although they weren't necessarily something I would want to wear since they reminded me of a preschool art project, the idea and artistry of them made me stop and look twice.
